Places to Avoid
The FCO, which stands for the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office, advises against travel to North Sinai. This is because there has been a
substantial increase in criminal activity such as; recent terrorist attacks on
both the police and security forces.
They have also advised that only essential travel should be
made to:
- Beni Suef
- Minya
- Asyut
- Sohag
- South Sinai.
This is due to similar reasons. You may think that package
holidays to Egypt are looking rather bleak, what with these safety measures put
in place. However, they have reported that Sharm el Sheikh is safe to travel
to. This includes the airport and the following areas:
- Sharm el Maya
- Hadaba
- Naama Bay
- Sharks Bay
- Nabq.
The reason as to why it is still safe to travel to these areas
is the fact that not only are they very tourist friendly, but enhanced security
measures have additionally been put in place. You can rest assured that you
will be safe during your holiday, as Egyptian military are situated throughout
Sharm el Sheikh at the following locations:
- Airport
- Check points around the perimeter
- Throughout the South Sinai Governate.
They are carrying out strict routine security checks on
anyone who enters the airport. Additionally to this police are performing
random spot checks on vehicles, to ensure everyone’s safety. With measures such
as these in place, it is no wonder that there has been no violent protests in
